Position Description

Just like the children we serve, Children's is growing and hiring an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse-Nurse Practitioner (APRN-NP) and Physician Assistants to provide comprehensive care for the pediatric patient through direct medical/nursing care in collaboration with the physician. Care includes: health promotion, health supervision, illness prevention and diagnosis, treatment and management of various health problems and conditions.

PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Satisfy all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the Medical Staff Policy on Allied Health Professional, required to be credentialed.
  • Practice within relative framework of respective scope of practice.
  • Knowledge of physical, mental, developmental, emotional and social needs of infant, toddler, pre-school, school age and adolescent patients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Maintains current knowledge and skill level in field through reading appropriate journals, networking, and attendance at conferences or seminars.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education as required by the Department of Health and Human Services-Regulation and Licensure Credentialing Division as represented by Physician Assistant licensure in the State of Nebraska.
  • Maintain active Federal DEA license.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current and valid unrestricted license Physician Assistant in the State of Nebraska required.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) required to work
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physician assistant and supervising physician(s) must maintain a readily available Practice Agreement on file at all times per State of Nebraska regulations.

NURSE PRACTITIONER

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Satisfy all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the Medical Staff Policy on Allied Health Professional, required to be credentialed.
  • Practice within framework of respective scope of practice.
  • Knowledge of physical, mental, developmental, emotional and social needs of the neonate, infant, toddler, pre-school, school age and adolescent patients.
  • Maintains current knowledge and skill level in field through reading appropriate journals, networking, and attendance at conferences or seminars.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP) from accredited college or university required
  • Maintain active Federal DEA License.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current and valid unrestricted license as a registered nurse and as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse-Nurse Practitioner in the State of Nebraska required.
  • Current and valid nationally recognized nurse practitioner certification required – FNP-BC, CPNP-AC, or CPNP-PC. Pediatric board certification preferred. Acute care certification required within 4 years of hire.
  • Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Current and valid Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required, within 6 months of hire.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • An Advanced Practice Nurse who does not have a master’s degree or two thousand (2,000) hours of supervised practice will be required to maintain a state-approved Transition-to-Practice agreement with supervising provider, which shall guide the nurse practitioner’s practice.
