I was all ready to submit my foreword for this issue when I heard the sad news that one of the first PAs I worked with, the one who mentored me in my first hospitalist job, had passed away. I am sure only a few of you knew him. He was never a leader in PA education, never on faculty, nor served as a program director. He never held national or state office. I didn't think there are any articles in any journal with his name attached. He never was outspoken about an issue troubling PAs. He is what I would call the everyperson PA, a PA who day in and day out provided care to patient after patient, never looking for glory, just wanting to provide relief for people suffering.
